FAQ

How often do I need to change my lures

Change your lures once a day. After too much exposure to the sun, lures will lose their effectiveness.

Are there different types?

There are many types of lures. Some lures are designed specifically for certain species of fish. Others are made to imitate insects, worms, frogs, crayfish, grasshoppers, etc. There are many sizes and shapes of lures. Some lures are even shaped like real bugs.

Are you able to fish without a bobber?

Yes. A bobber helps keep the bait in place when you fish. There are two parts to a bobber: the float, and the line. Casting a lure requires that you attach the hook at the end of your line. Next, you need to cast the line out and let go. A bobber is not necessary to cast a lure. The lure could sink into the waters, making it difficult for the fish bite.

How much can I budget to spend on fish-catching gear?

Fishing gear doesn't need to cost a lot. There are many options that are affordable. You can buy a cheap line, hook, and reel. You can also buy a reel and reel set.

How big should my tackle bag be?

A large tackle chest is required to keep all your fishing gear. The number of items inside a tackle box will determine its size.

How do I bait my hooks?

Tie a piece meat on the hook to bait it. Then tie the meat around the eye of your hook.

What distance should I fish from the shore?

The further you are from the shore the more likely it is that you will catch fish. But, you also have a higher chance of getting wet.

Statistics

  • For most freshwater species you are most likely to target when first starting out, a reel size of 20 to 30 should be more than enough! (strikeandcatch.com)
  • You likely have a fish hooked if the bobber moves erratically for over 5 seconds. (tailoredtackle.com)
  • About 40 percent of all fish are freshwater species. (takemefishing.org)
  • To substantiate this theory, Knight attempted a systematic inquiry by considering the timing of 200 'record' catches, more than 90 percent were made during a new moon (when no moon is visible). (myfwc.com)
